Obituary:
The Late Mr. John J. Brannigan

The Residents of Tenterfield district, and particularly of the older generation, will learn with regret that a pioneer dweller in our community has passed away in the person of Mr. John Joseph Brannigan of Bryans Gap, whose lamented death occurred yesterday. Mr. Brannigan had been ailing for a considerable time, and three months ago went to Warwick to consult Dr. Phillips, but the care and attention of that gentleman and Dr. Crommelin of this town, had senile decay to contend against, and the end was inevitable. Mr. Brannigan was born in Blanchestown, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1829, and was married in England in fifties, his wife being a native of County Kildare. With one child Mr. and Mrs. Brannigan sailed for Australia in 1856, landing at Moreton Bay. After two years on Clifton Station, Mr. Brannigan rented a farm for five or six years, and then took up the one where he has lived ever since. He is survived by his widow and four sons, Messrs. Robert, John, Joseph and Jeremiah (the second of whom is married) and by three daughters, Mrs. Felix O'Neil and Misses Jane and Helen Brannigan. The bereaved family will have every sympathy in the loss of one who was kind and cheery as a husband and father, and who industrious, charitable, and respected as a citizen. The funeral today at one o'clock will be largely attended.
