TRAGIC FAMILY PICNIC Joy Drowned; Others Have Close Call SYDNEY, Sunday. - Robert Frederick Brannigan, 14, was drowned, and his father, William Mathew Brannigan, and his brother, William John Brannigan, nearly lost their lives, while attempting to rescue him in the Georges River, Sandringham, to day. The Brannigan family went for a picnic at Sandringham, and later they all entered a rowing boat for a row an the Georges River. When the boat was about 30 yards from the shore Robert Brannigan dived overboard, with the intention of swimming ashore, but he got into difficulties in the strong current which was running. As he disappeared under the water liis brother, William John Brannigan, jumped out of the boat and swam towards him, but in the struggle which followed his brother Robert caught him by the leg and pulled him under. They both disappeared in deep water. RESCUED UNCONSCIOUS William Brannigan was able to release himself from his drowning brother, and swim to the bank of the Georges River, Sandringham.
