George Todman was head of a group of Congregationalists which, according to the History of Strathfield* , "though small in number, were among the wealthiest and most influential of Strathfield's early residents". They built the Uniting Church
at corner of Homebush and Albert Roads, Strathfield in 1884 (now Korean Parish)

Tobacco merchant and philanthropist. Born in London, he entered into partnership with Wilheim von der Heyde as tobacco merchants. After death of Heyde in 1896, Todman became managing director of W D & H O Wills. He later became a director of
the British-American Tobacco Coy. Todman was a great philanthropist and supported the building of the Homebush-Strathfield Congregational Church and built a wing at the Western Suburbs Cottage in memory of his daughter Mildred.



George Todman lived at ‘Milroy’ in Albert Rd, which has been demolished and Strathfield Girls High stands in its' place. Todman Place and Todman Reserve Strathfield and Todman Avenue Kensington are named for George Todman.
