William Brokenshire 3Rd Of 10 was born at St Columb, Cornwall. England but his exact birthdate is unknown - probably late 1850's or early 1860's.
William (aged 12/14) ran away from home after an argument with his grandmother and pushing her down stairs.
He joined the Merchant Marines. He spent am unknown number of years at sea during which time he was shipwrecked twice - once off the coast of England and once in the China Sea. Although he returned to England several times over these years he never contacted his family again. William jumped ship in Australia (probably mid 1880s) and settled in Clarencetown area where he became foreman of road gang by the time he married Ada Ellen Tuck
