William Cock (Goddard)

  • Born: 1841, Altarnun, Cornwall England
  • Marriage (1): Ellen Goddard in 1869 in Sandhurst (now Bendigo), Victoria Australia
  • Died: 1901, Wellington, Somerset England at age 60

  General Notes:

Brother of Philipa Cock. According to descendant Ian Davies,

William emigrated to Australia during the gold rush. He married Ellen Goddard in Victoria (probably Sandhurst/Bendigo) in 1869. They had two sons born in Sandhurst: William Alfred and John, before returning to Cornwall having presumably made
their fortune in gold. They had four further children in Cornwall and later in Devon: Gertrude (Minnie), Henry (Ian Davies' grandfather), Frederick and Winnifred. All the boys in the family have Brokenshire as a middle name. Because of
embarassment about the name Cock, William decided to change the family name to Goddard (his wife Ellen's maiden name), and , in the 1891 Census there they all are, miraculously Goddards and no longer Cocks

William married Ellen Goddard in 1869 in Sandhurst (now Bendigo), Victoria Australia. (Ellen Goddard was born about 1851 in Yorkshire England and died in 1901.)
