Colin William (Will) Slatyer
- Born: 26 Oct 1939, Goulburn, NSW Australia
General Notes:
Will Slatyer has been analysing markets since 1965, initially commodities and foreign exchange, then interest rates and stock markets. He has experience as a commodities merchant, futures broker, merchant banker and market risk consultant. A founding member of the ATAA, Will has made technical analysis presentations to members throughout Australia, and has lectured on risk management in the USA, Japan, New Zealand, Indonesia and Malaysia. Many will remember his sailing presentation at Sydney 1997 IFTA Conference. He is the author of five books, the most recent of which is "The Speculative Strategist" published by McGraw-Hill, New York in 1996. Mr Slatyer now lives in Sydney, Australia where he consults to FIMAT, researches climatic and cultural cycles, and trading systems. In his many years in the markets Will Slatyer has investigated most avenues of technical analysis, but has concentrated on refining the application of trend-following techniques to produce a sound universal method of trading, both to counter market risk, and to allow profitable strategic speculation. He utilises some of the philosophy from an ancient Chinese general, Sun Tsu, as expressed in the book "Art of War". Will believes that a company, fund manager or speculator with a defined market policy will operate more profitably with selected strategies. An integrated system of mathematically defined moving averages in various time frames, triggered by factored MACD and momentum, can produce the strategies and tactics that allow enhanced returns. Forecasting can be of use to policy and strategy, but only strategic trading signals are truly predictable in the active volatile markets of the twenty-first century.
