After studies with Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Trinity College of Music, London and Durham University, Gavin held various positions including Principal Organist at St. Mary's Cathedral Sydney, Senior Project Officer with the Music Board of the Australia Council and a Lecturer in Composition Studies at Sydney Conservatorium.

Gavin Tipping was founding Director of Blue Mountains Conservatorium from 1992 - 1999 and from 1988 until 1995 was also Director of Music at Blue Mountains Grammar School. He has toured Europe and the USA as accompanist and soloist with St.
Mary's Cathedral Choir, Sydney and has also given many recitals in Sydney.

As a composer he has received several commissions and has composed two Musicals in collaboration with Annette Charter: The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, in 1995 and A Christmas Carol in 1996.

Gavin recently returned to Australia and has purchased a small property on the Central Western Slopes. He is enjoying life as a 'country' musician and pastoralist.
