Ellen Mason
Research Notes:
Don Mair notes: Last year my wife and I took a drive to Ottawa for the weekend to connect with a 103-year-old great-Aunt of my mother. Ida Crocker (Bain). Ida's mother Ellen Mason and my grandmother, Ida Victoria Mason were sisters. Ellen was on the ship to Canada age 1, in 1884 with her father Richard Waddington Mason and his wife, Elizabeth Bird and son Thomas Waddington Mason, age 4, from Dent, in Yorkshire. I remember looking up her history during Covid and I read an article that she had turned 100 in this Veterans Nursing Home in Ottawa. No family could come to see her, due to the pandemic. Born in 1920, she was 103 when we visited her in the Nursing Home. I had put together a family binder with a few of the Statutory Records, pictures of homes that her and her family lived in, etc. She is legally blind, so I just read the articles to her. She has a daughter that lives in Northern Ontario (about a 12 hour drive away) and one in British Columbia. I think she was glad of the company and I was thrilled to finally meet her. So there's one on the Yorkshire Dales side found!
