His father arrived, as a convict on the · "Lady Kennaway (2)" (arrived on the 12/10/1836, sailed form Downs on the 11/6/1836). and his mother's parents also arrived as convicts - James Armstrong on the · "Hillsborough" (arrived on the 26/7/1799, sailed from Portland Rds on the 23/12/1798). and Catherine Mangin on the · "Almorah (3)" (arrived on the 20/8/1824, sailed form Cork on the 6/4/1824).

James married Ellen Armstrong, daughter of James (convict) Armstrong and Catherine (convict) Mangin, in NSW Australia. (Ellen Armstrong was born circa 1830.)
