Richard and his brother Edward were sons of an Essex millwright, who stole 324 pounds of lead and, 'with force of arms' one pair of stockings. They were convicted at Chelmsford in 1788 and sentenced to 7 years. They were transported to the colony aboard the ship 'Atlantic' in 1791.
Edwards grant of 1796 lay between the river and Robinson's (Bushell's) Lagoon. In 1803 his industriousness won him another 30 acres across the lagoon. After his first wife died in 1804, he lived with Elizabeth Lang.
