  General Notes:

Funeral 5/7/1977

Noted events in his life were:

• source. & Adam Moroney who writes:
Norman was a sapper (military engineer) in the 1st Light Horse Signal Troop in World War 1. He enlisted on 19 August 1914 and subsequently returned to Australia on 27 August 1915. Before the war he was a 22 year old cycle builder in East Caulfield, Victoria. Norman's regimental number on his enlistment form was number 26. He was indeed one of the first to join up. From reading his WW1 service record, Norman was hit by a shrapnel ball in the back which lodged somewhere in his left chest. This occurred at Gaba Tepe, Gallipoli, Turkey on 31 May 1915 (soon after Anzac Day). He was a despatch rider at Gallipoli and probably an excellent horseman. He was returned to Australia without the ball being removed and was medically discharged from service in early 1916. He was not crippled but had pain in his spine and weakness in both his arms. His record also stated that medical opinion at the time was that he was totally inhibited from earning a livelihood in civilian life given his condition at the date of his discharge. Whether he had an operation later in life to remove the ball is unknown. He did however live to a good age.
