am in the midst of restoring a beautiful Victorian Crazy Quilt made by her, finished in 1889 (the year of her death), and handed down to me. This is an amazing work of art and a precious family heirloom, so I'm trying to put together a biography for her.
On her Death Certificate in Cincinnati, Ohio, it states that her father's name was William J. Frost and that she was born in Liverpool, England on July 3, 1844. She died on April 29, 1889. The baptism record that Mr. Hall points to is dated November 10, 1844 with a father's name of "Henry".
Her obituary states that "she came to Rochester, N.Y., when quite young, afterward removing to Cincinnati and marrying Mr. Critchell in 1865." There are numerous "Sarah Frosts" born in England around 1844, some of which I am still exploring. There is only one Sarah Jane Frost in Rochester, however, who might fit. This Sarah Jane is working as a "domestic" in 1860, stating that her age is "19", which puts her birth year around 1841, opening up more possibilities. Women always seem to lie about their ages at some point!
Sarah married Brian Provis Critchell, son of Brian Equitt Critchell and Sarah Ann Siderfin. (Brian Provis Critchell was born on 8 Aug 1842 in Wells, Somerset England and died on 11 May 1914 in Cincinnati, Ohio USA.)
