General Notes:
Arthur Chapman notes: Notes for Charles Kingham: Travelled to Australia on "John & Lucy" - left the Liverpool docks on 25 Jan 1857 and arrived in Sydney on 6 May 1857. THE PASSING OF A PIONEER. With reference to the death of Mr. Chas. Kingham, briefly reported by us, additional particulars are to hand respecting the worthy pioneer who has passed to his reward. The deceased gentleman was a native of Buckinghamshire, England, and came to Australia about 56 years ago. He first settled in Mudgee for a brief period, and then removed to the Millthorpe district, whore he has resided for over half a century. The subject of our obituary married Miss M. A. Trevarthen, of Carcoar, and leaves, besides the sorrowing widow, a family of five sons, William (Parkes), Herbert Chas. (Blayney), James Henry, Arthur George, and Percy Alfred(Millthorpe), and three daughters, Mrs. A. Wise (Parkes), Mrs. T. Sellers (Millthorpe), Mrs. Bowyers (Queanbeyan), and thirty-three grand-children. One daughter (Mrs.J.Ewin) predeceased him about four years ago. Just at that time Mr. Kingham had a serious illness, from which he never thoroughly recovered, and about a week ago alarming symptoms developed which had fatal results. The deceased was highly respected, for was the soul of integrity and honor, and of a charitable disposition. The esteem in which Mr. Kingham was held was touchingly manifested at the funeral, which was held on Monday, All sections of the community were represented. The cortege left the deceased's late residence for St. Mark's Church of England, where the rector, the Rev. R. H. D. Kelly, conducted an impressive service. The hymns "Nearer my God to Thee," and "The Resurrection Morn," were sung by the choir. The rector, in the course of a sympathetic and impressive reference to the deceased, spoke of his sterling qualities. Mr. Kingham had been one of the fathers of St. Mark's Church. He was a good churchman, neighbour, and friend, and a Christian in every respect. The Rev. Kelly exhorted his hearers to emulate the splendid example set and, forgetting self, to secure for themselves a crown of glory, which he was sure their brother had gained. The cortege was then reformed, and proceeded to the cemetery, where the last sad rites were performed. Many beautiful wreaths marked the sympathy of friends. One brother, Mr. George Kingham, of Millthorpe, and one sister in England also survive. Messrs J. Toms, R. Cohen, G. Worboys.J Ewin, H. Ewin and J. Kingham acted as pall bearers. Mrs. John Reed, of Blayney, had charge of the funeral arrangements.(Orange Leader, 25 Jun 1913, p. 1 -https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/100889774?) FUNERAL NOTICE.
