My Grandfather Edward Rae born 1888 is showing (on my website www.thetreeofus.net in February 2013) Hugh Rae as his Father, not so, Hugh Rae's daughter Janet b. 1870, Carlisle, was my Grandfathers Mother. Father unknown but from the post cards I have from Janet to Edward she states that your Father is under this engine. This was a photo of the Gretna Green Rail disaster 22 May 1915 which caused a lot of conjecture about Hugh driving the train that was involved in the accident. As Hugh died in 1910 it would make it impossible for him to be the driver, and had he been alive he would have been too old. I got led astray when I found the 1891 Census showing Hugh as the Father of Edward. The real story is Janet must have married Frank Scott, who was the driver of the troop train involved in the crash and where the confusion came in with Hugh as he was also a train driver on that line. I still don't know if Frank Scott was the Father of Edward, I'm still investigating.
Frank married Janet Rae, daughter of Hugh Rae and Jane. (Janet Rae was born about 1870 in Cumberland, Carlisle England.)
