James married Sarah Blackmore, daughter of Robert Grierson Blackmore and Ann Hinde, on 27 Oct 1823. (Sarah Blackmore was born on 25 Jun 1795 in Manchester, Lancashire England and died on 16 Dec 1871 in Northwich, Cheshire England.)
