WEDDING IN CLIFTON
Yesterday afternoon there was a fairly large congregation at Christ Church, Clifton, to witness the marriage of Mr. Edward Charles Bird, son of Mr. Edward Wheler Bird, of Woodcot Villa, Tyndall’s park, and Miss Ann Elizabeth Biggs, third daughter of Colonel Biggs of 40, Cornwallis crescent. The ceremony was fixed for a quarter to two, and the interest excited by the happy event was manifested by the fact that for a considerable time before this hour the centre aisles of the church were filled by the friends and relatives of the bridge and groom. Mr. John Barrett, the organist of Christ Church, agreeably relieved the monotony of the interval of waiting by playing some selections of appropriate music, including Batiste’s “Allegro in F,” amd “Allegro non troppo” by Mendelesohn, Guilmant’s “Caprice,” and a triumphal march, composed by Mr Farran Lambert, of Clifton. The bridgegroom was the first to arrive, and he was accompanied by his brother Mr Arthur Bird, who acted as best man. The bride, leaning on the arm of her father, who gave her away, entered the church punctually at a quarter to two. She wore a handsome dress of cream Duchesse satin, trimmed with orange blossoms. She was attended by four bridesmaids, viz., Miss Helen Biggs and Miss Katie Biggs (sisters of the bride), Miss Kate Bird (sister of the bridegroom), and Miss Kate Morant (cousin of the bride). These young ladies were attired in costumes of grey cloth, trimmed with old rose silk, with velvet hats to match. As the bridal party walked up to the aisle to the chancel, Wagner’s “Bridal March” was rendered by the organist. The ceremony was performed by the Rev Hesketh Biggs, rector of Ettington, Warwickshire, assisted by the Rev T.G.L. Blackwood Price, curate of Christ Church, Clifton. While the register was being signed in the vestry, Gounod’s “Berceuse” was played, and the familiar strains of Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” peeled forth as the newly-married couple left the church. After the marriage, Col. and Mrs Biggs held a reception at 40 Cornwallis crescent, among the guests being Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Bird, Miss Bird, Mr. A. W. Bird, Mrs Walter Bird, Miss Shackell, Mrs. Watts, Mr Montague Watts, Mr and Mrs Hare, Mr Luke, Mr Styan, Mr J. H. Bere (Milverton), Col. and Mrs. Biggs, Miss Biggs, Mr R. Biggs, General and Mrs Beynon, Mrs Morant, the Rev Hesketh Biggs, the Rev T.G.L. Blackwood Price, Mr F. Daubeny, Mrs Daubeny, Col. Daubeny, the Misses Daubeny, Mrs Deedes, the Misses Biggs, and Masters Biggs (3). In the afternoon the bride and bridgegroom left for Plymouth and Cornwall. The wedding presents were numerous and of a costly character.

Edward married Ann Elizabeth Biggs, daughter of Thomas Biggs and Unknown, on 28 Jan 1891 in Christ Church, Clifton, Bristol England. (Ann Elizabeth Biggs was born circa 1870.)
