Old Falmouth.
Mr. John Carne was agent to the East India Company, and his sons were agents to the Peninsular and Oriental and Royal Mail Steamship Companies from their commencement. A portrait of Richard
Carne and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Camin and other members of the family, hang on the walls of Mr.
William Naylor Carne's beautiful residence, Rosemundy, (inherited from his uncle), at St. Agnes, among other family legacies. For two centuries Trevaunance, at the same place, belonged alternately to the Carnes and Tonkins. Mr. Carne is one of the Cornish "gardeners," and his green-houses hold rare ferns and plants, while in his garden are to be seen fine shrubs and flowers, well sheltered by large trees.

Alfred's Church of St. Agnes
The church was rebuilt in 1848 under the direction of Mr J Piers St Aubyn, architect, and paid for by Mr and Mrs William Carne, for whom the east window is dedicated. (8) In 1905, the spire of the church was struck by lightning and had to be rebuilt. That same year the bells were recast as a memorial to Alderman William Lawrence, the cost being defrayed by his son, Sir Edward Durning-Lawrence of Ascot, Berkshire. (9) A new vestry was added in 1909 by W Naylor-Carne, and a brass lectern was provided by his family in his memory; the oak choir stalls were the gift of the family of Mr Thomas Martin, who for over 20 years was sidesman and churchwarden.

Noted events in his life were:

• Occupation: Wine Merchant.

William married Catherine Charlotte Groube, daughter of George Bromley Boulderson Groube and Charlotte Carne Boulderson, on 1 Oct 1863 in Holy Trinity, Bedford, Bedfordshire England. (Catherine Charlotte Groube was born on 15 Jun 1842 in Madras, India, christened on 24 Aug 1842 in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India and died on 25 Nov 1878 in St Agnes, Truro, Cornwall England.)

William next married Lucy Oxland, daughter of John Oxland and Unknown, on 27 Jan 1880 in Charles Church, Plymouth, Devon England. (Lucy Oxland was born in 1855 in Plymouth, Devon England and died on 16 Dec 1932 in 7 Gyllynevase Terrace, Falmouth, Cornwall England.)
