PEDESTRIAN KILLED
A Pedestrian died yesterday after being struck by a car as he was crossing Barnard Street near the Bendigo Home and Hospital for the Aged at 6.25 p.m. yesterday.
The man was Charles Thomas Smith resident of the Bendigo Home and Hospital and the driver of the car was Edward Thomas Mechan, 27, of Wattle Street, Bendigo.

Charles married Florence Mary Backshall, daughter of Michael Backshall and Unknown. (Florence Mary Backshall was born about 1887, died on 11 Jul 1969 in Bendigo, Victoria Australia and was buried on 15 Jul 1969 in Bendigo Cemetery, Victoria Australia.)
