Peter Joeph Clynes went to St Josephs Convent School at Coleraine from 1916 - 1924 and gained his Merit Certificate. He also did Accountancy (Intermediate Standard) with Messrs Hemmingway and Robertson Ltd, Melbourne.
He enjoyed cricket, swimming and golf.
Peter spent 17 years with one employer - Coleraine & Western District Co-operative Butter Factory Coy Ltd before joining the Air Force.
Peter married Elsie Avenel Gray on 23 February 1931, Victoria. Elsie and Peter had one daughter Margaret Ann Clynes born 29 December 1932.

Peter Joseph Clynes enlisted in the Citizon Air Force as an AC1 Clerk General on the 13th May 1941. Granted a Commission in the Administrative and Special Duties Branch of the Citizens Air Force on the 2nd January, 1943 as a Pilot Officer. Granted a Short Service Commission in the Special Duties Branch of the Permanent Air Force on the 23rd September, 1948 and a Permanent Commission on the 1st September, 1950.

The Cetificate of Medical Examination describes Peter as: - height - 5 feet 8 and a half inches, weight - 11 stone 3 pounds, chest measurement 38, complexion - dark, eyes - blue, hair - brown and religious denomination - Roman Catholic. His distinctive marks were a scar on right knee.
Peter was in charge of Missing & Prisoner of War sub section. This involved notification to next of kin for all casualties in the above catergories. Also made daily checks of all lists compiled from Japanese Radio broadcasts where names of Australian personnel were mentioned as being Prisoners of War.
Peter received the Pacific Star War Medal 1939/45, Australia Service Medal 1939/45, Returned From Active Service Badge.
Peter filled in an application to retire on the 16th October 1964
1. I hereby apply to retire from the Royal Australian Air Force on 22 December 1964, for the purpose of establishing myself in civil employment in accordance with Section 39, para. 2 (c) of the DFRB Act.
2. As at the 22nd December 1964 I will be 54 and a half years of age and will have completed over 23 and a half years continuous service including over 21 years and 11 months commisioned service,
3. I have been offered empolyment with the Snowy Mountains Authority in accordance with the terms of the attached letter. As I intend to permanently reside in CANBERRA and have four comparatively young children to educate, the offer of employment by the foregoing authority provides me with an excellent opportunity for rehabilitation as the appointment is in CANBERRA.
Peter was placed on the retired list on the 23rd December 1964 with the honorary rank of Wing Commander.

Peter married for a second time to Elsie Jean Wallace on 4 March 1946, Sydney, N.S.W. Elsie and Peter had four children - Rosemary Wallace Clynes born 23 January 1948, Robert Peter Clynes born 19 October 1950, Adrian James Clynes born 19 January 1952 and Annabel Clynes born March 1954.

Peter married Elsie Avenel (Tupps) Gray, daughter of Darcey Diomed Gray and Ruby Naomi Dickinson, on 23 Feb 1931 in Victoria Australia. (Elsie Avenel (Tupps) Gray was born in 1910 in Prahran, Melbourne, Victoria Australia, died on 9 Dec 1977 in Portland, Victoria Australia and was buried on 14 Dec 1977 in Hamilton Lawn Cemetery, Hamilton, Victoria Australia.)
