Dear Sir,
With reference to you enquiry forwarded to A.I.F. Headquarters, London, regarding your son, the late No.3522 Sergeant H.A. Buck; 59th Battalion, advice has been received from the Commanding Officer, 32nd Battalion, which states as follows:-
“On 16/10/1917 the above-named soldier was in charge of a Ration Party returning from
“the front line and was wounded by a shell. He was taken to the R.A.F. and was dressed by
“R.M.C. who wanted to send him out to the Field Ambulance that night. Sergeant Buck said
“he would stop at the R.A.F. till morning and save the stretcherbearers a trip out in the
“dark. During the night a shell went through the door of the R.A.F. and killed Sgt. Buck
“and the R.M.C.
“ He was buried I believe by members of another Company of this Battalion but I cannot
“say where. The Company was in at Tokio Ridge Support in the Ypres Section at this
“time.”
Yours faithfully,

Major,
Officer i/c Base Records.
