Edwin Walter Buck enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 6/6/1916, next of kin was his mother Mrs Leah Buck, Francis Street, Bairnsdale.
The Certificate of Medical Examination describes Edwin as: - 18 years and 3 months, height - 5 feet 6 and a half inches, weight - 130 pounds, chest measurement - 31/34 inches, complexion - florid, eyes - blue, hair - dark brown and religious denomination - Church of England. His distinctive marks were - Vac - nil, scar - left kneecap, mole - right side cheek and mole - under chin.
Edwin served in the Light Horse Unit at Tideworth and was transferred to the artillery. He was mustered as a gunner.
Edwin served in France and was appointed driver. He was in hospital with Influenza on the 1/4/1918 and rejoined his unit on 27/8/1918.
He was convicted of drunkenness on 16/8/1918 and awarded 2 days F.P. Edwin was A.W.L. from 23.59 on the 28/5/1919 until 1500, 29/5/1919 and admonished by Maj. McLeish on the 6/6/1919 and forfeited one days pay.
