Cairns Post (Qld.) Thursday 19 September 1912. Page 4. NEARLY DROWNED On Tuesday afternoon a lad named Bruce Allen Seaton, aged seven years, and a son of Captain M. Campbell, of the Cecil Rhodes, were standing on a pontoon between the new wharf and Howard Smith's wharf, throwing out a stone fastened on a piece of string, when Seaton lost his balance and fell in. Captain Minehane, Mr. Mitchell (the second officer), and a steward named Harry Owens were attracted by the boy Campbell, and Owens immediately (the next two lines are impossible to read)little, fellow, who had, then gone under twice. On being brought to the bank young Seaton was very sick, but was soon brought round, his only trouble being his hat, which was floating near by, as he did not care to go home without it. He was then taken home in a cab, and now feels little worse from his exciting adventure.
