Member of the Warburton Bowling Club.

Arthur enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces on the 20th February 1915. He had a Medical Examination on the 25th March 1915 and the Certificate states that Arthur George Martyr was 20 years and six months old. He was 5 foot 10 and a half inches in height, weight - 154 lbs, chest measurement - 36/39 inches, complexion - fresh, eyes - blue, hair - light brown and religious denomination - Church of England, distinctive marks - 4 vac left arm, scar resulting from operation for varecole left groin.
Arthur was charged with neglect of duty on the 7/1/1917. (Neglect of Duty i.e. being - Dispatch rider, failed to deliver dispatches. Forfeits 3 days pay.) He was also charged with disobedience on the 10/5/1918 for not wearing a Jacket and on the 14/8/1918 he was deprived of 1 days pay for not being in possession of Identity disc. He was hospitalised for diphtheria and tonsillitis and served in Egypt.
Arthur received a Star Medal in 1921, a British War Medal and a Victory medal in 1922
