Robert Albert Armstrong enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 13/7/1915. His next of kin was his father Mr Andrew Armstrong, “The Hill” Rochford, Victoria. The Certificate of Medical Examination describes Robert as: - 20 years 6 months, height - 5 feet 8 and three quarter inches, weight - 11 stone 4 pounds, chest measurement 34/37 and a half inches, complexion - sallow, eyes - grey, hair - auburn and religious denomination - Presbyterian. His distinctive marks were: - vacs - 4 on left arm, mole left shoulder. Robert fought in France and apart from attending hospital for one day on the 12/3/1916 came through his war experience without being wounded or any serious illness. Robert returned to Australia per “Ypiringa” on 5/7/1919 and was discharged on 27/8/1919
