His certificate of medical examinaton describes him as: - age 30 years and 7 months, height - 5 feet 9 and a quarter inches, weight - 150 lbs, chest measurement - 33/36 inches, complexion - fresh, eyes - blue, hair - black and religious denomination - Presbyterian. His distinctive marks were: - Vacs 2 left arm, operation scar (appendicitis) - right abdomen, white scar chest, mole back neck and right shoulder blade and a scar on left knee. Joseph served in France and returned to Australia per “Port Lyttleton” and disembarked on 5/8/1919.
