  General Notes:

Ross Patterson notes:
There was a family in Hay called Macclure that were very affluent and they took my grandmother in under the same roof after her mother's mental problems manifested themselves, and looked after her because she was part of their family, a cousin, till she was an adult. Her job in those days was a barmaid, and my father was proud of her. The hotel was part of the Macclure estate of which he established. Secondly I remember growing up in Hurstville/Kingsgrove my father often talked about the Macclures who also lived just around the corner from us. He often told me they were cousins. They had a very tall daughter I remember. One of his cousins was nicknamed 'Barney'. He was a little older than my father and a very senior police officer . I believe there still are some of the Wade family, my grandmother's family, left in Hay. Henry Barclay Maclure married my great grandmother's sister Janet Massie. My great grandmother's name was Jane Massie. She married William Patterson 1849
He adds:
My grandfathers sister ,Eliza Isabella Patterson married his grandfather Daniel Thomas Williams. Dumbleton Rd did have its name changed just before the war to King Georges Rd, also the suburb of Dumbleton for Beverly Hills because of former social regard which Dumbleton was held. The house in which Barry lived at Beverly Hills ,I visited a few times with my Father, was usually on a Saturday morning. At that time ,in the 40s/50s my father also took me, on Saturday,to visit other relatives of the Pattersons , in the same suburb . Of the Williamas brothers, Dad was fairly close, almost like brothers to a couple of them ,one he used to call Bruvvy. One of the other brothers had a lisp and could not pronounce my 'brother' properly,so I think the whole family called him Bruvvy. I knew there was few Williams brothers but I did not realise there was 5 . Andrew Barton Paterson (one T) the Lawyer and Poet to my knowledge is not a relative, There was however another Paterson who lived in the Hay area ,who was very affluent, called Tom Paterson(one T) and was mentioned in the Paterson poem, Gone a shearing with old Tom Paterson on the One Tree Plain. I think my dad whose name is William Raven Patterson got his nickname from A B Patersons Poem. My father and some of the family were born in Hilston before moving to Hay I also think my grandmother, Sarah Wade and some family her were born in the Hilston/Maude area, she died at Hurstville 1981 aged 102 years old.
