As a young man worked on John Bell's property "Violet Bank", Kangaroo Ground. In his early 20s he went to "Mount Wood Station" an 800 square mile property at Tibooburra, New South Wales. He became overseer and by 1910 was manager.

Andrew next married Agnes Thomson, daughter of William Ogilvie Thomson and Agnes Armstrong, on 23 Aug 1939 in Tibooburra, NSW Australia. (Agnes Thomson was born on 24 Jun 1895 in Tibooburra, NSW Australia, died on 22 May 1984 in Melbourne, Victoria Australia and was buried on 28 May 1984 in Cremated at Springvale Crematorium, Victoria Australia Ashes Interred Pittosporum - Rose Tree Garden G2 Bed 2 Rose 45.)
