Daniel Morgan enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on the 13th September 1915. His next of kin was his wifre Mrs Jane Morgan, Lancefield. This address has been crossed out and Mrs Jane Morgan, 1 Mitchell Street, Brunswick has been entered. The Certificate of Medical Examination describes Daniel as: - Age - 44 years, height - 6 foot five and a half inches, weight - 12 stone 7 pounds, Chest Measurement 34/36 inches, Complexion - fresh, Eyes - grey, Hair - grey and Religious denomination - Presbyterian. His distinctive marks were - Vac 1 left arm and scar right chest. Daniel embarked on the HMAT Orsova on the 12th November 1915 and travelled to Egypt. He was admitted hospital at Maadi with Bronchial Asthma on the 26/1/1916 and transferred to No 3AUX, Heliopolis from the 15/2/1916 until the 22/2/1916 and returned to his unit. He was charged with “Absent without leave, in as much that he, at Maadi, was absent when called upon at the 8 p.m. Feed Parade on the 24th February 1916” he was awarded 3 days C.C. (Confined to Camp) He returned to Australia per H.T. “Seeang Bee” ex Suez on the 22/4/1916 and was demobilised on the 31/5/1916. He received the Star, British War and Victory Medals.
Daniel married Jane (Jeanie) Dixon, daughter of Thomas Dixon and Jane Sprott, in 1909 in Victoria Australia.
