  Research Notes:

source: John Nagle who notes:
D G HOLLAND 1888-1982 she was six years old when her father Robert Holland died in 1893 she recalled how she wore a black mourning dress for six months and every month her mother [Hannah Martha Lomax 1851-1927] would sew a small coloured flower on the dress, her Aunt Louise Holland 1833-1898 [sister of Robert Holland 1829-1893] who lived at Rose Cottage Mobberly would take Dorothy on a pony and trap down to Brooke St Chapel and to St Wilfred's parish church on most Sundays and then home to Bollin House. Her Aunt Louise told her much of her family history .the history of Brooke St cChapel and that most of her family were buried there. She also told her that her family were characters in a book called Cranford written by there cousin Elizabeth Gaskell. Her Aunt Louise gave her a 1827 journal that belonged to her mother Honour Holland 1797-1863. Louise also gave Dorothy a small chair that she called Matilda's chair. She claimed that her Aunt Margret was the character Matilda. Her sister Honour Holland 1837-1857 was the baby that Matilda dreamed about that could not speak. Also Margret's brother John Holland was a Mr Holbrook.
Dorothy Holland married George Chesshyre Dutton of Dutton Hall in 1920 and had two children [twins] Dorothy 1921-1972, George1921-1926. She spent the last few years of her life being looked after by her granddaughter and died at the grand old age of 94. She is buried at St Wilfred's Duchy Road Harrogate and is survived by one living descendant. In 2005 this information and family history led me to Brooke St Chapel in Knutsford Cheshire. Now please bear with me you must understand that I knew very little about Elizabeth Gaskell and the first grave I went to was hers. Next to Elizabeth was the grave of Peter Holland and his wife Margert Bostock. Also buried with them is their daughter Margret Holland the lady I was looking for [the hairs on the back of my head stood up !!! ] also next to them was their son John Holland with his wife Susannah which was also a grave I was looking for. It's very strange when you see pictures of people that lived nearly 200yrs ago and you are stood next to there graves which only took 5 minutures to find. I never expected to find them at all. I have been to Brooke St Chapel many times in the last few years also to St Wilfred's in Mobberley. I adore them both.

Dorothy married George Chesshyre Dutton in 1920. (George Chesshyre Dutton was born circa 1885.)
