Patrick was aged 23 and was about 28 years the junior of Elizabeth. He had not completed his sentence and was a former peddler, 5'3" in height with dark brown eyes and hair and dark, ruddy complexion (described as 'quiet').
In 1828, Elizabeth and Patrick were recorded living on a 15 acre farm at Portland Head with Elizabeth's youngest son/
The 1841 census records Patrick McGahey occupying a wooden house at Knight's Retreat at Cumberland Reach on the banks of the Hawkesbury, where he lived with his wife Elizabeth on the farm of her son Matthew.

Patrick married Elizabeth Rymes on 20 Aug 1827 in Wilberforce, County of Cumberland, NSW Australia. (Elizabeth Rymes was born in 1774 in London City, Middlesex England and died on 12 Dec 1841 in Portland, NSW Australia.)
