A Quaker, the family trait of serving the community, guided her all of her life. She was particularly concerned over the plight of young women. During the Great War she worked to improve conditions for the girls in the munitions factories. In the 20`s she went to South Africa to help friends working there for the church. She was involved with the Girls Friendly Society most of her life.
