Noted events in his life were:

• source. & Fran Rees who notes:
was researching the Thorold family for my Ancestry tree, and came across your web entry for George Coventry Thorold. I had found one definite census record for the same name in 1851, when he was shown as a visitor at the home of James Rudd at 49 Southampton Row, St George, Bloomsbury, London, England. His age is given as 17, so born about 1834, West Cowes, Isle of Wight, England and "lives in his mother's property". Unfortunately, it doesn't say who his mother is, or where the property is. I think I also have an 1841 census record for a George Thorold, age 7, living in West Cowes, Isle of Wight, with I assume, his grandmother Mary Thorold, age 70 and her married daughter Susannah Halliday (nee Thorold) and husband Henry Halliday and two children Henry Thomas Halliday and Phillipa Thorold Halliday (his cousins). (Phillipa became the second wife of my gt gt grandfather and taught music to Queen Victoria's children as Osborne House, East Cowes, Isle of Wight, England).
I found no further records for him and no details of his birth, to indicate who his parents were, though it is an educated guess that it could have been either of Susannah's brothers - Thomas (b1805-1844) m in 1832, Emily Kendall (1812-1867) (no census records for them) or Charles Edward (b 1807), although he appears to have been unmarried.
As you say George Coventry Thorold married Mary Ann Keighran in 1866 in NSW, Australia, it would seem very likely that they are the same person and he emigrated some time between 1851 - 1861, probably when he was in his early 20's, as he had no real family ties back in England.
Which is interesting & likely to fit in as George Thorold's niece Constance Thorold (1876) married Henry Keighran (1876)
His father was Thomas Keighran (1850)
His father was Thomas Keighran (1808)
His father was Patrick Keighran (1764)
