I see that all the William (snr) Hickey's children died in the UK (except Lucy). I gather that his sons were miners except for John (one of the older children) who was a sailor. So I am interested if he ever came to Australia as it is a mystery why Lucy (alone) would leave for far distant shores. Although it seems that some of her sisters never married, so was she on a bride boat?? I see Herbert lived only 100 km South in Hull but they came on separate ships. He out of Hull and she out of Portsmouth. It appears she was a free settler so she was not crew although she became stewardess on the Pendle Hill even after marriage?


I see that Lucy was born in Almouth but older children were born in Ireland. I can find William (jnr) born in Ireland 1854 and he appears in the 1871 census in England but not his father in 1871, nor in 1861? I can only find William Senior in the 1881 census but I guess he was around in Almouth in 1857 for Michael's birth. Was William Senior at sea (R Navy & Coast Guard) and therefore not counted but what of the rest of the family missing in the 1861 & 1871 census?

William married Susannah Temple Richardson, daughter of Alexander Richardson and Eleanor Waddle, on 15 Apr 1893 in Waterloo, Blyth, Northumberland. (Susannah Temple Richardson was born on 20 Oct 1876 in Newsham Freeholds, or Cowpen, Northumberland England and died on 11 Sep 1953 in Blyth, Northumberland England.)
