In 1881, aged 11, Ellen is living with her mother, who is widowed, at 3 Dukes Road, Tunbridge Wells. By 1891, Ellen (called Nellie) 21 and single is living with her cousin Emily Card in Frant, presumably as her mother has also died. In 1901, Ellen is still single, and still living with cousin Emily, who has married Alfred Nickells.
