He was foreman builder for Moores and supervised the building of terraced housing on Station Road and rows leading off - known as Clumber Street, Ashbourrne Street etc. It is thought he was also in charge of building Station Hotel and the Empire cinema. He later returned to Bulwell not considering Shirebrook a suitable place to live. We think he probably returned before 1906 as Matilda is buried in Bulwell.
