of 4 March 1899 shows him receiving a land grant of ~20,000 acres at Alpha. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article68211531 Qld records show him at: 1903 \emdash in Nth Qld As a Farmer at Baneda Gr (A homestead near Tambo) 1913 \emdash in the Clermont area at Retro Station as a Station Hand 1925 \emdash in Emerald, at Ruby Vale as a miner 1936 \emdash at 141 James St. New Farm Brisbane. The Courier-Mail of 29 Sep 1948 has a photo of James Tom holding "his grandson William John Glasson" at his 95th birthday party in Brisbane.\emdash http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article49921606 The above article says Jim Tom arrived in Qld in 1891 and was overseer on a number of sheep runs until his retirement to Brisbane in 1927. The article says Jim attended Newington College, Sydney. Oral family history says he was dux of the college.
