George arrived in Sydney in Dec 1809 aboard the ship 'Dromedary' which carried Lachlan and Elizabeth Macquarie and their entourage to New South Wales. It was commanded by its master Samuel Pritchard, who was accompanied by his wife, two year-old son, and their servant 'Black Tom'
Also on board the new Judge Advocate Ellis Bent. George was engaged by Bent as his chief clerk. He was 21 years old.
Ellis Bent died in 1815 aged 32 and by 1816, George had left Government service and had either bought or was granted a property that he named 'Schuldham Farm' after George's mother Elizabeth Schuldham. The farm was adjacent to and north of Mount Gilead, the property owned originally by Reuben Uther.

In the following George and Elizabeth added to their holdings south of and to the north east of Mount Gilead. They also applied for a land grant at Burryong near Gunning.

Some time after 1823 they moved to another of their properties located on the eastern side of the Appin Road. They built a home there and their last child was born there in Dec 1826.
George and Elizabeth separated in 1827. As part of the settlement, Elizabeth retained all the properties and homes in the Appin area and George was left with the unfinalised grants at Burryong, where he built himself a hut and remained for many years.

George married Elizabeth Aiken on 20 Dec 1811 in St Johns, Parramatta, Sydney, NSW Australia. (Elizabeth Aiken was born circa 1796 in Sydney Cove, NSW Australia and died on 17 Aug 1843 in Redfern, Sydney, NSW Australia.)
