Benjamin Thompson Edye was as hairdresser-boy. He came 1836 as a convict to Australia, sentenced to 7 years deportation on account of "picking pockets".
In 1841 he got a Ticket of Leave, to remain in the District of Carcoar, near Bathurst, and in 1844 he got the Certificate of Freedom. He stayed at first as a shepherd at Guanna Hill, County of Wellington. Afterwards he settled as a hairdresser and perfumer in Bathurst. The Bathurst Directory of 1862 reveals that he was carrying on a business as Hairdresser and Perfumer in Howick Street Bathurst in that year. Later he carried on a saddlers business for many years.
Benjamin Edye married Mary Mahoney following the birth of their 4th child. Altogether they had 10 children. He died in 1887 as a respected colonist.


Benjamin married Mary Watson on 27 Jun 1854. (Mary Watson was born in 1826 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland UK and died on 14 Dec 1876 in Bathurst, NSW Australia.)
