The first entry for the Edye in the Church Registers of Hatherleigh, Devon was in 1576 the marriage of William Edie to Alice (Alse?) Hurst, the widow of Robert Rise or Rice.
A license was granted 1579 to a William Edye to teach the rudiments of grammar and the art of writing within the diocese of Exeter, Devonshire. His name (recorded as Willm. Edye) appeared also on a jury at Hatherleigh on 10th April 1590.

William married Alice Hurst in 1576. (Alice Hurst was born circa 1570 and died in Nov 1627 in Hatherleigh, Devonshire England.)
