Edith Maud Barlow moved with her family from Gamston, an agricultural village on the fringes of Sherwood Forest in central Nottinghamshire, to live in an industrial (steel mill) suburb of Sheffield, in nearby Yorkshire when she was three. Her mother, Polly, died when Edith was seven, at which time Edith was sent to live with her paternal grandmother, Jane (nee Johnson) Barlow in the village of Laneham, possibly with other siblings or cousins. As a young woman, Edith moved to the south of England. Following her sister, Alice (Barlow) Lennox, Edith emigrated to Canada in 1927,

Edith married Harold Clifford Earl (Clifford) Storey, son of Charles Mitchel Storey and Annie Elizabeth Dawes, on 2 Apr 1930 in Orangeville, Dufferin County, Ontario Canada. (Harold Clifford Earl (Clifford) Storey was born on 7 Dec 1898 in Mono Mills, Ontario Canada and died in 1981 in Guelph, Ontario Canada.)
