James Buckley

  • Born: Cir 1815, Ireland UK
  • Marriage (1): Sophia Baker
  • Died: 3 Sep 1858, Greigs Creek (Burren Creek), Denman, NSW Australia about age 43

Noted events in his life were:

• source. Kirrily Cant who writes:
There is a James Buckley, convict, who arrived in 1826 with a 7 year sentence. He had been convicted in 1825 at Dublin Ireland, therefore his sentence would have expired in 1831/1832. The age (28 years in 1826) fits and the information on his death certificate that he arrived in The Colony in 1831, would also fit with his gaining his freedom. This James Buckley, the convict, did not ask for permission to marry whilst under sentence. So far I have not found anything to disprove that our James Buckley is the same person as this James Buckley the convict. Another possible for our James is the convict who arrived 'Minerva 1' (4) - 19 November 1824 with a 7 year sentence. When the 1828 census was taken he was a 'Government Servant' (convict), and a Watchman assigned to Jno. Blaxland at Patricks Plains. I do like this one, but the age is wrong. James is listed in the early 1841 Hunter Valley Directory as already living in the Merton (Scone) District.

• Occupation. cow keeper & farmer

James married Sophia Baker. (Sophia Baker was born circa 1820.)
