  General Notes:

Ian Carter notes:
One of the best-known and most highly-respected residents of the district, Mr. John Brimacombe, passed away shortly before 10 o'clock on Saturday night at his residence, Brimpaen. The deceased, who was 60 years of age, had been ailing for several months, and his death was not unexpected. Some time ago he was under treatment in Abbotsleigh private hospital, where his general health improved sufliciently to enable him to return to his home, but the cause of his trouble was deep-seated, and for some considerable time no hope of his recovery had been entertained. In the earlier stages of his illness Mr. Brimacombe suffered great pain, but during the past fortnight he had rested quietly, and his end came peacefully. A native of Barrabool Hills, near Geelong, deceased had spent the greater part of his life at Brimpaen, where he was one of the most successful wool growers. Of a retiring disposition, he did not appear very prominently in public life, but his life abounded in good works. He was ever ready to help along a good cause, and his unostentatious conduct earned for him a respect in all quarters which was wide and sincere. He was a member of the committee of the Horsham Agricultural Society, but ill health latterly had kept him away from the society's meetings. Deceased had been married twice. His first wife, who died 30 years ago, was Miss Mary Scott, of Glenthompson, and the children of that union are Miss Celie Brimacombe, of Glenthompson; Mrs. E. Boyle, of Horsham; and Mrs. D. Forbes, of Glenthompson. The deceased is survived by his second wife, nee Miss Helen Elliot, and the children of the second marriage are Alice, Tom and Mary.
The respect in which the deceased gentleman was held and the sympathy felt for the bereaved relatives were shown by the large number who were present at the interment in the Horsham Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The funeral, which moved at 3 o-'clock from the residence of Mr. E. Boyle, son-in-law, in Pynsent street, was a thoroughly representative one. The coffin was borne to the grave by Messrs. W. C. Carter, A. Carter, H. Russell, R. Elliot, R. Matthews and O. Rees. The burial service of the Presbyterian Church was read by the Rev. Thomas Gray, and the mortuary arrangements were carried out by Mr. A. F. Weight.
