• Arrival: on the Theresa, 1839, Australia. ⁷⁵⁰ Kathy Chivers notes:
He arrived as a convict on the Theresa in 1839, after a conviction at Liverpool in 1838 for highway robbery. His parents' names are also now unknown, although his death entry in the BDM does give his father as William. But that is still unconfirmed to my knowledge. There are quite a few William Ashtons in both convict and migrant lists, but the court records for him and Mary in Maitland- for obscene language I think- clinched his arrival ship.

William married Mary McConnell, daughter of James Magee and Fanny McConnell. (Mary McConnell was born circa 1835 in Laggan Village, Belfast, County Antrim, Northern Ireland UK and died on 13 Jul 1892 in Newcastle, NSW Australia.)
