The death of their mother Amelia in 1901 led to the children being sent to the boys/girls industrial schools in Hobart in 1903. The youngest Wilfred Norman was sent to Mrs Fogg's Orphanage. Their Father William was an alcoholic and out of work so could not support them financially. Their names were George William, Henrietta, William Thomas and Wilfred Norman.
