Now William's Mother married a Paton, rumour has it that William changed his name to his mother's MAIDEN name! After his mum and dad died, to inherit land maybe?
At the moment I cannot prove this but its in the records somewhere, and to my mind you yourself prove that it happened!!

William married Ann or Mary Sharp. (Ann or Mary Sharp was born in 1763.)
