  General Notes:

Colleen Phillips notes:
I have an interesting story on Jane Gumbleton. We couldn't find her and Richard Phillips death. I got their marriage certificate and it gave only basic details. I wrote to the Wagga History Society and the Church of England where they were married and asked was their any further information. Leanne Deisal answered on behalf of both and she too is a Gumleton descendant. They were married in a double ceremony with her sister and Peter Kelleher. Richards parents were Samuel Phillips and Marie Brennan. So there was a Richard Phillips who died in Bega in 1911 so I go his death certificate. But he was married twice first to Phoebe Simms and then Elizabeth Luck. But the children listed for the 2nd marriage were the same names as ours. So I put the certificate away.
Madeleine, my sister in law and Lola my cousin went to Wagga, Cowra, Cootamundra and every town and cemetery in between looking for their death. We just clicked away with the camera for any names I recongnised. The only reference we found was at the Cowra History Society where they had a book "Sons and daughters of Cootamundra" and they got a couple of paragraphs.
We thought we would never find them. But a couple of years ago I made contact with a David Sheppard from England who was an Oxford descendant but they had stayed in England. While here he did some research to see how we do it in Aust and he found the death of Jane Gumbulton in Beechworth Asylum. It is a long story but she had left Richard and he told his kids she was dead but she moved to Victoria with Samuel Izzard her nephew and they had children.
So the Bega Richard is my g grand father. The matron of the Bega hospital filled out the death certificate. There is an Elizabeth Luck who married in Wagga a couple of years before Richard and Jane got married so maybe Richard and Elizabeth took off together and the matron assumed that was who he married.
