Philip enlisted with the A.I.F. on 13th December 1916 at the R.A.S.G. Sydney. He is
described as 5ft. 5 1/5 inc. 128 lbs with a Dark complexion, Brown eyes and Grey hair.
Philip saw service in France. On the 23rd March 1918 Philip was wounded in action
(gassed) in St. Omer France. By May 1918 Philip had been transferred to the Aust.
Emp. Company in France. Philip was then invalided back to England where he spent
time in hospitals in Epsom, Surrey; Dartford and Weymouth. He returned to Australia
in August 1918
