Scott joined the Army and served in East Timor, on his return to Australia he received a payment from the Army for serving overseas and with this money he put a deposit on a house in Brisbane where he and Brooke lived. In January of 2004 they put the house up for sale and in February of 2004 it was sold for $300,000. Scott left the Army at the end of February 2004 and went to live in Gympie.

Scott married Brooke Ann Jarrett, daughter of David Malcolm Jarrett and Julie Lee-Ann MacDonald. (Brooke Ann Jarrett was born on 17 Feb 1983 in Boothville, Brisbane, Queensland Australia.)
