Briefly his naval history from the certificate is as follows:
He was serving in the Royal Navy but deserted in 1911
He joined the RAN on 21 August 1914 as an able seaman so presumably his RN service was taken into account as otherwise he would have been an ordinary seaman on entry, He joined in Sydney HMAS Penguin being the barrack ship.
He was sent to HMAS Cerberus in Melbourne for three months presumable for some form of training.
He then served in HMAS Warrego, destroyer, from 17 November 1914 to 15 June 1915 when he was invalided out of the navy. During that period Warrego served in New Guinea and Australian waters.
It is of interest that in spite of having deserted from the RN, during his period in the RAN his character was assessed as very good and his ability as superior.
