Bertie came to Australia 1 May 1914 aboard the ship IRISHMAN and went to live with his brother Fred and wife Elsie. He lived with Elsie's sister Ethel at Telegraph Road Pymble and after Fred died and Elsie was working on the ships, he and Ethel looked after Harold and Raymond. He and Ethel never married.

Bertie came to Australia in 1914, after Fred Hood died.
He never married Ethel Loveday, they lived together at Pymble.
